Introduction to Life Drawing

Tuesday, September 15, 2026
6:30 – 9:00 p.m.
Sundown | Port Elgin

$65 (materials not included)

Step into one of the oldest artistic traditions and discover the fundamentals of drawing from a live model in a welcoming, supportive environment.

Whether you've never picked up a piece of charcoal or you're looking to strengthen your observational drawing skills, this workshop is designed for artists of all experience levels. Guided by local artist Niki Sutherland, you'll learn how to observe form, capture movement, and translate what you see onto the page with confidence.

Rather than focusing on perfection, this class encourages curiosity, experimentation, and the joy of slowing down to truly see your subject.

What You'll Learn

During this 2.5-hour workshop you'll explore:

  • Drawing from a live nude model
  • Understanding proportion, shape and perspective
  • Capturing gesture and movement through timed poses
  • Developing stronger observational drawing skills
  • Building confidence through practice instead of perfection

An optional group critique will wrap up the evening, offering participants the chance to share work, ask questions, and learn from one another. Participation is completely optional.

Who It's For

This workshop is open to anyone interested in drawing—from complete beginners to experienced artists looking to refresh their practice. No previous life drawing experience is required.
